Why don't the library have other books like the library in town, like
novels, etc? And why can't they get them ordered like they do at the library
in town?

There's plenty of novels in there - Dickens, Agatha Christie, J.G.Ballard,
H.G.Wells, George Orwell. What exactly were you looking for?
The VICTORS : Eisenhower and His Boys: The Men of World War II by Stephen E.

Because it's an academic library providing materials for people studying. It
does contain some novels for those studying literature courses but it is not
there as a casual interest reading library, unlike public libraries.

However there should be an ordering scheme for getting books from other
libraries, if only from other unis. But this may not be available for
undergraduates except with special dispensation.

Scaryness...
I was on campus on Saturday - admittedly for all of 10 minutes though as I
checked some directions. But who knows...

UKC can't be arsed to invest in a fifth floor for the library to
increase the space?
It does contain some novels for those studying
literature courses
Or those who get bored of our everday courses - I used to like
browsing the Parliamentary Acts and psychology journals.

Exactly, and it's not even there for the public anymore like it was a
few years ago, similarly the Venue is now closed to guests wishing to
be signed in. It appears that UKC is doing a Dunblane.

Bill (if I was at uni now I'd be guilty of using my mobile in
the library, who'd have thought that could be possible?)

Everywhere is, unfortunately. It's all about liability and all of that
stuff. The real tragedy is that a lot of it is down to knee-jerk
reactions by real-jerks (ie. the SU I would think in this case) which,
with a little proper investigation and planning, wouldn't happen. There
does have to be adequate safety for all but risk assessments can cover
many areas and, as long as the relvant paperwork is in place, there is
the required audit trail should anything ever (God forbid) end up in
court for a trivial accident.
